Reading and video: exercising double-decker bus
Intermediate level (B1-B2)

A Czech artist has taken a classic British double-decker bus and made it do press-ups (you can also say ‘push-ups’) in time for the Olympics! Using hydraulics, huge red arms can lift up the bus.

As the bus ‘exercises’, you can hear it groaning. I wouldn’t like to be on this one! Watch it here

The first motorised double-decker London bus was introduced in 1923. However it didn’t have a covered top. The classic Routemaster bus, that became a British icon, was first used in 1956.

In February 2012 a new London double-decker called A New Bus for London or NB4L was launched. It can carry 87 passengers and has 3 doors and 2 staircases. It’s not cheap: it costs £354,500!
