Vocabulary: Let’s use some more phrasal verbs

Vocabulary
Elementary to intermediate (A1-B2)

Phrasal verbs are very common in conversational English. They usually have 2 or 3 parts to them.

You probably already know some phrasal verbs:

I’m going to put my jacket on (or ‘put on my jacket’ or ‘put it on’).
She gave up smoking last week (or ‘gave smoking up’ or ‘gave it up’).
He turned down the volume (or ‘turned the volume down’ or ‘turned it down’).

Here are some of my favourite 3-part phrasal verbs:

I’m looking forward to my holiday (or ‘look forward to it’). This means you have something in the future you are excited or pleased about.
He came up with a great solution (or ‘came up with it’). This means to produce or suggest something.
We got away with the crime (or ‘got away with it’). This means to escape being discovered or punished.

Some phrasal verbs are not difficult to understand but you have to memorise others.
