Reading: London visit
Lower to intermediate level (A2-B2)
Recently I met some old friends in London. We spent the day looking at the sights as we walked around the city.
We met at Oxford Circus and walked down Regent St. After a couple of minutes we decided to have a look at Carnaby St so we turned left into the narrow streets. After joining Regent St again and having a look at the grand buildings, we reached Piccadilly Circus. From there we again turned left for a quick walk around China Town.
After China Town we made our way to Covent Garden and spent a short time looking around the market. Feeling hungry we decided to look for a restaurant near Trafalgar Square. We noticed there was a cafe in the 18th century crypt at St-Martin-in-the-Fields church. It was packed full of people but we eventually found a table and had lunch.
From the church we walked down towards Parliament and Big Ben. After a few photographs we walked across the bridge to the South Bank and walked east in the direction of the Tate Modern art gallery. It was getting a little dark by then so we decided not to go inside the gallery but take the Millennium Bridge to St Paul’s Cathedral.
At St Paul’s we were lucky to arrive just in time for an organ recital. It was good to sit down and have a rest. After 30 minutes we left to have a drink and snack at a nearby cafe. It had been a long day in London but wonderful to meet old friends again!
